12th October 2014 – Appleton Juniors 1-1 Seneley & Garswood Hawks

Garswood travelled to Appleton in foggy weather for their 11.30 kick off with the match initially in doubt due to the mist, however this soon cleared up close to the referee blowing his whistle for the start of the match.

The game kicked off and the visitors looked to gain the initiative and started on the front foot but the home keeper stood firm. Twenty minutes had passed when Brad Wilson stormed out of defence winning two fifty/fifty challenges before playing in Alexi Mellor who dinked the ball in from 15 yards out with a cool finish.

Garswood looked to extend their lead but despite a few chances could not add to their tally and went into the break 1-0 up.

The visitors introduced four subs in the second half and started brightly enough but a change in formation from the hosts saw Garswood sitting further back and not attacking with their usual cut and thrust. The hosts grabbed an equaliser mid-way through the second half when some hesitancy in the visitors defence gave the opposition centre forward a chance he simply could not miss to level the scores at 1-1.

Both teams went in search of the winner but despite changing the formation, Garswood never really looked like they were going to go on and win the match and relied on some calm and composed defending from Jack Perrat and Josh Aubrey Williams to secure the draw.

A concern was the lack of legs particularly in midfield in the second half, but credit to Appleton who came on strong the further the match progressed.

It seems that we are taking one step forward and two steps backward at present, we need to get some consistency in our game and will be working hard on the training pitch in the coming weeks to achieve this.
